NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] flavoprotein 3, mitochondrial (NDUFV3), is an accessory protein subunit of the large multi-subunit enzyme complex known as NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase or Complex I. This enzyme is located on the inner membrane of mitochondria and plays a critical role in cellular energy production by transferring electrons from NADH to ubiquinone during oxidative phosphorylation. NDUFV3 itself is not believed to be directly involved in catalysis but may serve structural or regulatory functions within the complex and may be one of the last subunits assembled into mature Complex I. It has also been identified as a renal carcinoma-associated antigen (NY‑REN‑4). Mutations or dysfunctions affecting components of Complex I can contribute to various human diseases including some cancers and inherited metabolic disorders.
